About The Artist

honestav (Avery Freeman) grew up the youngest of five in rural Missouri, split between a mother struggling with addiction and a cash-poor father. No A/C, no consistent food, no plan beyond surviving the next week. At fifteen he found his older brother dead from suicide.

He responded the only way he knew how: he channeled his grief and started recording. Over the next two years, he wrote and released more than 100 songs while moving furniture by day and recording until 4am.

His TikTok “Broke Boyfriend” series — a sketch comedy series he started on the platform — amassed over 160 million views and helped him build a large audience that fell in love with his personality and sense of humour.

In 2024, his father died by suicide. Av wrote "I'd Rather Overdose" on the drive home. That song changed everything, with 157.6 million streams and a presence on the Billboard chart. The MOD SUN remix peaked at #21 on Alternative Radio. 622K+ TikTok creates.

In March 2026 it was RIAA Gold Certified. One month later, the plaque was handed to Av on stage by mgk at the final show of their Australian arena run. A major cosign from one of alt rock's most influential figures — and a signal that honestav has arrived in the genre's mainstream
